The National institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has participated in Bahrain Summer Festival in its 14th edition, under the theme “Bahrain Summer, Gold for the Eye”, for three consecutive days, by presenting a number of workshops, in which various recreational activities were presented on the most essential child rights stated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), being the first international legal instrument to define the basic rights and freedoms of the children, for the purpose of transforming knowledge of human rights into practice and daily behavior, in an attempt to find out the best ways to exercise human rights and freedoms and to ensure their protection from any violation.

The workshops, which lasted for three consecutive days, focused on: “The Right to a Healthy Sustainable Environment”, which briefed the children about recycling, “Children’s Rights”, in which presented to the children a number of tales related to children’s rights, and “The Creative Young Jurist”, in which the children were briefed about a certain human rights problem and its solution.

The workshops were presented by a group of NIHR Secretariat-General staff with long expertise and special skills in dealing with children. They focused on the practical aspect by offering competitions, reading stories and playing various games suitable for the age group (8-12 years).

On this occasion, Chancellor Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General, praised the level of children’s awareness of their rights, pointing out that the NIHR’s participation in the festival falls within the NIHR’s programme to promote and spread a culture of human rights in general and children’s rights in particular, expressing his appreciation to the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities for their constant cooperation with the NIHR to contribute to refining children’s personality and briefing them on their rights in a simple language.
